Overview & Benefits
The Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI) is a collaborative of regional quality groups collecting and analyzing data in an effort to improve patient care.
The VQI collects perioperative and one-year follow-up data to generate real-time benchmarked reports to assess quality of care and determine best practices in vascular surgery.
The VQI is governed by the SVS Patient Safety Organization (SVS PSO), which provides oversight of data sharing arrangements, key outcome and quality measure analyses, and dissemination of information to participating providers. The VQI encourages vascular surgeons, cardiologists, radiologists, and other specialists who perform the vascular procedures collected in the VQI Registries to join this important quality initiative.
The VQI is modeled after the successful Vascular Study Group of New England (VSGNE), which has demonstrated the ability to use aggregated data to recognize patterns of outcomes and their associated cases. Through regular meetings, the regional group has defined processes that effect outcome improvement in several areas in vascular surgery and allow individual hospitals and physicians to understand their results in the context of regional benchmarks. Based on the group’s experience, the formation of regional quality groups is encouraged for the sharing and analysis of data to initiate quality improvement projects and improve care.
Under the umbrella of the SVS PSO, the American Venous Forum (AVF) and the Society for Vascular Medicine have collaborated with the Society for Vascular Surgery to develop quality assessment tools, specifically addressing functional outcomes of vascuar disease management.
The SVS PSO has partnered with M2S to provide its secure, cloud-based database, M2S PATHWAYS for data collection and analysis. The M2S PATHWAYS clinical data performance platform can be used to generate the real-time benchmarked reports of major outcomes and complications, as well as longitudinal tracking of center performance compared to a chosen group of centers. These reports permit participants to continuously assess themselves compared to an anonymous group of peers on key performance measures.
